The refined and unflappable nature of the GLE hints at great moments of excitement, radiates a sense of freedom and a quality you will find infectious: naturalness. Its design concept makes this off-roader a uniquely dynamic, impressive and dominant vehicle.
A vehicle that stands with confidence and class right in the thick of it: the new GLE exudes assurance. In particular its redesigned front and rear bumpers, widened wings and exhaust system with visible tailpipes give it an expressive, sporty appearance.
Drawn-out lines and a long wheelbase with short overhangs help shape the sporty silhouette of this SUV. Strikingly shaped wheel arches accentuate hitherto unknown facets of this vehicle type.
The front is dominated by the bonnet with its striking power domes. The radiator trim, with centrally-positioned Mercedes-Benz star and two three-dimensional louvres, emphasise the character of this SUV. The optional LED High Performance headlamps contribute to the attractive lighting composition so typical of the brand.
But the new GLE doesn't only shine out at the front. The bicolour tail lamps also use LED technology and highlight the Mercedes-Benz brand experience, particularly in the dark. Together with the lower roof at the rear and horizontal lines, the result is a striking rear end design.
Inspiring new ways of thinking – a drive system that enables the new GLE 500 e 4MATIC to head into a new era. The drive system combines a powerful 3.0-litre V6 combustion engine with an electric motor using an externally-chargeable high-voltage lithium-ion battery.
The V6 engine delivers an output of 245 kW, a maximum torque of 480 Newton-metres and gives the GLE 500 e 4MATIC a top speed of 245 km/h. Together with the 85 kW and 340 Newton metres of the electric motor, the combined fuel consumption is down to just 3.3 litres per 100 kilometres. The reason for this is the intelligent operation strategy.
Every braking phase is turned into an energy boost, and the combustion engine is turned off during deceleration phases. Functions such as the radar-assisted energy-recovery function, the anticipatory operating strategy that adjusts for road type and the four drive modes all contribute to an impressive energy footprint: When purely in electric drive mode, the vehicle has a range of up to 30 kilometres and has zero grams CO2 local emissions per kilometre.
The new GLE is one of the safest vehicles in its segment. It has comprehensive and intelligently-coordinated safety equipment for every one of the four phases in the integral safety concept from Mercedes-Benz.
The term "Intelligent Drive" covers the many functionally-coordinated assistance systems working together in the vehicle. With this concept, Mercedes-Benz takes a big step closer towards realising its vision of accident-free driving.
The optional Driving Assistance Package Plus takes more strain off the driver and provides greater safety and greater protection. This combination of complementary safety and assistance systems helps to relieve driver stress, reduces the risk of accidents and improves protection for both the occupants and other road users.
