Designed to bring comfort and luxury to all journeys, the ŠKODA Rapid is an ideal family car.
The ŠKODA Rapid is designed for outstanding practicality, whether you are going on a big shopping spree or a family vacation, the Rapid can handle all situations extremely well.
Folding down the rear seats increases the volume of the luggage compartment from a standard 550 litres up to a total of 1,490 litres. If necessary, you can fold down one or two backrests to get more storage space while retaining a place for seating in the rear.
Another feature which lends to proving this as the perfect family car is the double-sided carpet in the luggage compartment. This has fabric on one side and a washable rubber finish on the other. If necessary, you can easily turn it over and even muddy boots will not prevent you from keeping the luggage compartment clean and tidy.
The Rapid is available with four petrol and two diesel engines.
The 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine is powerful enough to carry a full load at 88bhp. It saves you money and is friendly on the environment. Featuring a seven-speed direct-shift gearbox, it optimises your gear changes by keeping the engine at optimal revs.
Representing diesel is the environmentally friendly 1.4-litre TDI, available with or without a DSG. It packs 88bhp and emits just 94-99g/km of CO2, exempting it from vehicle excise duty. The 1.6-litre TDI at the top of the range is similarly exempt, but delivers a formidable 113bhp.
Safety is of paramount importance to the SKODA brand, and you can rely on the safety of the Rapid even under extreme conditions. Standard equipment includes a wide range of safety features, such as the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) including ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and six airbags. As standard are the head airbags, which create a wall when activated and protect passengers in the front and rear from potential head injuries.
Remember the Skoda Rapid? No, you probably don't - it's Skoda's mid-size hatch, sitting between the Fabia and the Octavia in size terms, and has always been somewhat built down to a price. Although it's Skoda's second-best selling car worldwide, here in Ireland it's barely a blip - just 363 sales so far this year, and the only Skoda behind it in the sales charts is the diminutive Citigo.
That could be about to change, though, as Skoda is gearing up to release and reveal an all-new Rapid before the end of the year. The Vision RS concept car, shown last week at the Paris motor show, was a heavy hint in the direction that Skoda's going with the new car. Today, we have this first, somewhat occluded, image of the new car. We also have confirmation that it won't be called Rapid anymore.
It'll be, once again, a five-door hatch (the longer fastback shape is being dropped) and will be at the smaller, cheaper end of the C-segment (think Focus, Corolla, Astra) class, leaving space at the upper end for the larger, more sophisticated Octavia. It'll be based on the same MQB-A0 platform that we've already seen under the Volkswagen Polo, SEAT Ibiza, and SEAT Arona, and will likely be the largest car that can be built on that platform.
