MSL MERCEDES-BENZ PREPARES FOR C-CLASS CABRIOLET ARRIVAL

27TH JULY 2016

Mercedes-Benz is preparing the way for the arrival into Ireland next September of their new two-door, open-top C-Class Cabriolet – the first convertible model produced in C–Class form. Described by their sales manager in Ireland, Ciaran Allen, as ‘a strikingly sporty and visually eye-catching model, with a design that oozes appeal from every curve and contour’, the new cabriolet is a car that is crafted for cruising.

Internationally, the new C-Class Cabriolet comes in five petrol, two diesel and one 3-litre AMG versions, of 4 and 6-cylinder design, all with ECO start/stop function and all Euro 6 emissions standard compliant, along with 4MATIC availability in some cases.

In Ireland, focus will fall initially on the diesel powered C220d and C180 petrol models, for which with prices will be announced closer to their arrival.

Arguably, its most visual feature is its electronically operated open top roof that folds away into the trunk when open. Worked from a switch mounted on the central console, it can be opened/closed in just under 20 seconds, even at speeds up to 50 km/h. When open, boot space reduces from 360-litres to a still somewhat ample 285-litres.

Externally, its striking front end with inset star and diamond grille pattern, long bonnet, high beltline, LED high performance headlights, 17-inch wheels, and suspension set 15mm lower than the saloon are amongst its eye-catching features. On the optional AMG line, figure-holding sport seats with integrated head restraints, a multifunction sports steering wheel with flattened bottom section and sports pedals add to its sporty appeal.

Equipped with a high level of standard specifications, buyers can choose from an extensive list of options that includes additional paint finishes, upholstery and trim variants and additional soft-top colours of dark brown, dark blue, dark red or black. Amongst these also is a Cabriolet comfort package that includes AIRCAP, an electric draught stop system, and AIRSCARF, neheating for driver and front passenger - features that extend the open-top season whilst ensuring that occupants enjoy maximum open-air comfort, even at low temperatures.

As one would expect in a car of this class, high-tech comfort elements, safety systems and driver assistance features abound - including a roll over protection system specific to the Cabriolet – along with all of the connectivity and compatibility features modern drivers demand. Standard are ATTENTION ASSIST to warn the driver against drowsiness and COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS to help prevent collisions by applying brake pressure. Available also is a host of other driver assistance features of which DISTRIONIC PLUS, BRAKE ASSIST and ACTIVE LANE KEEPING ASSIST are examples.

To boost carrying space, rear seats fold individually. The AMG line comes with special bumpers and sills, 18-inch light alloy wheels and AMG body styling features.
